The C.O.V.A. project’s aim was promoting creation and development of an innovative supply chain in the energy field, through the use of oil crops in the Tuscan area, mainly rapeseed and sunflower. The activities carried out within this project were the optimization of a traditional extraction plant, the development of a suitable vegetable oil dephosphorization system, the extraction of proteins from the pressings and their energy valorisation. In addition a traceability system for the final product was developed and a market analysis was carried out for the development of an agro-energy supply chain for vegetable oil employment as biofuel as well as in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors. Finally the LCA was applied to the entire production chain, starting from the production of raw materials to the energy valorisation of vegetable oil.
